Assistant Store Manager

Job description:

Locals’ Market is a hometown grocer built around fresh, perishable foods, strong service, and convenient, everyday shopping. We are growing, and we’re looking for an Assistant Store Manager who wants to be part of building something, not just maintaining it.

This is a hands-on leadership role at the center of daily store operations. You will report to the Store Manager and work alongside a Kitchen Manager as part of the store’s leadership team. Together, you will ensure the store runs smoothly across both retail and foodservice.

You will work alongside your team on the floor while also owning key responsibilities around pricing accuracy, data reporting, and operational execution. Every decision involving labor, production, pricing, and waste impacts results, and this role plays a direct part in getting those decisions right.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in both the customer experience and the details behind the scenes that make a store run well.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct a team of 3 to 7 employees per shift, including cashiers, counter staff, and kitchen team members
  • Work actively on the floor by running the register, serving customers, and supporting daily operations
  • Own pricing execution and accuracy across the store
  • Use basic software tools to identify discrepancies, run reports, and support decision-making
  • Help manage labor efficiency, shrink, and margins through attention to detail and follow-through
  • Maintain a well-curated store environment where every detail reflects quality and care
  • Set the tone for a positive, customer-first culture

Compensation

  • $20 - $24 hourly

Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience and the ability to direct a team with confidence
  • Comfort working with basic software and data to spot issues and improve performance
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to notice what others miss
  • An outgoing, customer-first mindset
  • The ability to stay composed and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • A self-starter mentality and willingness to take ownership
