Cashier/Stock Clerk

Job description:

As a cashier, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring
smooth and accurate transactions at our checkout counters. In this role, you will register sales
on a cash register by scanning items, itemizing and totaling customers’ purchases, help resolve customer issues and answer questions, oversee the stocking of shelves and organization of products, and assist fellow associates as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Greeting customers warmly and ensuring a positive and friendly customer service experience from the moment they enter the store
  • Operating cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) systems proficiently to process customer transactions accurately and efficiently and maintaining a balanced cash drawer throughout the shift, reconciling transactions accurately at the end of each shift
  • Scanning, weighing, or entering product codes for items being purchased, ensuring pricing accuracy, then bagging or packaging customer purchases neatly and organizing them to facilitate easy handling and transportation
  • Ensuring the checkout area is clean, organized, and well-stocked with essential supplies such as bags, receipt paper, and promotional materials
  • Handling returns, exchanges, or refunds following company policies and procedures to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Proactively up selling or promoting additional products, loyalty programs, or special offers to customers to enhance their shopping experience
  • Assisting customers with inquiries or directing them to the appropriate department for further assistance when needed
  • Providing an exceptional customer experience by ensuring all products are available on the shelves for purchase by restocking front of house stock at regular intervals

Preferred:

  • Previous cashier or retail experience is preferred but not required
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs
  • Knowledge of grocery products and merchandising techniques
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software

Required:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor
  • Strong mathematical aptitude to accurately process transactions and provide change
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Attention to detail to ensure pricing accuracy and error-free transactions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift light to moderate loads
